AdaptationHubs project

On November 1, 2025, the AdaptationHubs project (“Bringing together the national level with the engaged regional and local levels (multi-level governance)”) was launched with the coordination of the North-West Croatia Regional Energy and Climate Agency (REGEA) and funding from the Horizon Europe funding programme. The project – in which HungaroMet participates as a partner – has a total budget of EUR 4,000,000 and a duration of 2 years.

Its primary objective is to establish multi-level governance climate adaptation hubs in every European Union Member State to help advance the EU’s Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change. These networks will strengthen cooperation among key adaptation actors and establish mentoring relationships between selected regions, thereby facilitating knowledge transfer at the national, cross-border and EU levels.

Establishment of the Hungarian Adaptation Network

HungaroMet Hungarian Meteorological Service Nonprofit Ltd. is responsible for implementing the project in Hungary. HungaroMet actively participates in carrying out national climate policy tasks, including the preparation of the greenhouse gas emissions inventory, performing climatological tasks, carrying out strategic planning tasks related to adaptation, and operating the National Adaptation Geo-information System (NAGiS), as well as representing Hungary in international and EU organizations. Within the framework of the project –implemented by HungaroMet’s National Adaptation Centre – the main objective is to ensure the broad involvement of national, regional and local public administration, professional, and civil society partners, as well as to provide an organized and transparent framework for cooperation across different sectors and governance levels. In doing so, the network’s tasks are to:

• support the coordinated planning and implementation of adaptation activities,
• strengthen cooperation between sectors and governance levels,
• facilitate the integration of scientific knowledge, practical experience, and policy processes,
• and contribute to enhancing the adaptive capacity of vulnerable regions and communities.
